Photo Showcase: White Tailed Deer On The Blue Ridge Parkway

Introduction

The Blue Ridge Parkway is, and probably always will be, one of my favorite places to go – and for so many reasons: there are little towns all along the parkway with local restaurants, shops, and tons of history; there is TONS of wildlife; and watching the seasons change in the Blue Ridge Mountains is so awe inspiring.

On one of my visits, I was staying in Hillsville, VA and working in Mt. Airy, NC – it was the closest available hotel as there were multiple events going on nearby! My work schedule was 12pm-8:30pm, doing 20-50 studio portrait clients a day (5-20 minutes each session), so in the morning I had time to explore. I’d start on the parkway at Mabry Mill in Meadows of Dan, VA, and travel down the parkway until I’d break off toward Mt. Airy. On day two of driving the parkway, I was going around 20 mph when I looked ahead, spotting a White Tailed Deer just off the side of road. Coming to a complete stop (after checking my surrounding of course!), and rolling down the window as I reached for my Nikon D800 in the passenger seat, I got the shot!
