Introduction
When first starting out as a photographer, the number of choices you have when investing in gear can be quite confusing – to say the least. There are so many products out there that people say you “need.” As a beginner, and even for professionals, my recommendation is to keep it simple, and have a reason for every purchase. Research the gear your buying before you buy it. Below you’ll find a few of the items I believe every photographer should have in their “toolkit.”
Photography Gear & Accessories Every Photographer Should Have
Lens/Camera Cleaning Kits
Being able to clean your own equipment is paramount! You don’t want to have to wait weeks while you send it off to be cleaned every single time your gear needs to be cleaned.
Remote Shutter Release
From self portraits to time lapses, there are so many reasons to include a remote shutter release in your photography toolkit.
SanDisk 1TB Portable SSD
Having physical photo storage you can trust is one of the most important things as a photographer – and always have more than one! This portable SSD is a great working drive to keep with your gear at all times.
Light Meters
An essential tool for photographers that want to be able to get accurate light measurements on the go. Perfect for time sensitive event photography or in studio settings.
SD Cards
Every photographer should have multiple SD cards with them at all times! These SanDisk Extreme PRO 128 GB SD cards are fast and reliable, and perfect for most situations.
USB Multi-Port Hub
I have several of these, including one for my phone to view raw images on the go. A USB hub should have all the ports you may need – SD/micro SD card reader, CF card reader, HDMI port, USB port for flash drives, etc. I use this one in particular on a daily basis!
High Quality Camera Bags
This Endurax camera bag is the one I currently use most! I can fit two DSLR camera bodies, an 80-200mm telephoto, 24-70mm, Godox V1-N, batteries and chargers, and more. Check it out at the link below.
SD Card Storage
This SD card holder is perfect for keeping your cards safe and secure. This specific holder can carry several micro SD, SD, and CF cards!
High Quality Tripod
Having a good tripod is paramount for successful photography, especially when trying to capture photos at a slow shutter speed. Any shake in the the tripod will definitely show up in your photos. My go-to tripod brand is Manfrotto!
Conclusion
Above are just a few of my favorite items and accessories I use on a regular basis as a photographer. In reality I use 10s, if not 100s, of different products in my photography almost every day. From lens filters to photo-editing applications, a photographers toolkit is extensive. If you’re just starting out, use this lis to start your own toolkit, and build on it from there.
